Holden Racing Team's Todd Kelly picks up third position in Tasmanian first race
26/11/2004 23:16 (Press Release) -
Car #2 (#50)
Qualifying – 2nd
Top 10 Shoot Out – 3rd
RACE # 1 – DNF
Mark Skaife:
“Practice and qualifying saw a great debut for our new car. We qualified third for the 42 lap first race but things went downhill from there.
"An engine overheating problem saw Car #2 running about 10-12th mid race and it was difficult to make any progress.
"Come lap 36 I made a move on Russell Ingall and we bumped wheels in mid air with my car bending a steering arm in the process. There was no drama in the incident that saw #2 being beached as I couldn’t straighten up to turn left anyway.
"We will install a fresh engine for tomorrow’s two races and we’ll see what can be done from the back of the grid!”
Car #22 (#49)
Qualifying - 1st
Top 10 Shoot Out - 2nd
RACE #1 - 3rd
Todd Kelly:
“Strong qualifying saw Car #22 start the race alongside Steve Richards in an all Commodore front row. The start wasn’t so good as I had to get off the gas to find some traction.
"Our pit stop on lap three was fine but brother Rick and his team must have put in a blinder, as I couldn’t figure out as to how he rejoined the track in front!
"Myself and Richards powered along with Ambrose in the mirrors, then Ambrose slipped through into 2nd place behind Rick, who had gained a handy lead at this stage.
"With rain sprinkling down over the closing laps we held station to take third for the day.
"The last few races have shown that the Holden Motorsport engine development program is starting to really dial in."
