Brad Jones Racing Tasmania Triple Challenge report

26/11/2004 22:43 (Press Release) - John Bowe - #12 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Finished: 17th Qualified: 31st
Big things were expected from Bowe on his home coming to Tasmania but uncharacteristically he struggled right through practice and qualifying. In fact he qualified last for the one of first times in his V8 Supercar career.

A thorough investigation of the OzEmail Falcon found that his left hand front shock absorber has been depleted of gas, making in virtually inoperable. The discovery of this technical glitch, which the team engineers believe has been present from the outset, has provided some hope that Bowe can get his efforts back on track.

In race one, he stormed through the field to pick up 14 positions and now has the opportunity make amends during tomorrow’s further two races.

John Bowe

“I think the whole team took a huge sigh of relief when we found the problem with the shock. We were ready to throw in the towel before that. It basically meant starting race one from scratch. We guessed on a setup for the car and luckily it was ok but we were able to learn much more during the race, so we’re all looking forward to tomorrow’s races.

"At least we were able to pass almost half the field in the first race and give ourselves a glimmer of hope for a decent result for the weekend.”

Finished: 12th Qualified: 16th

Jones has been solid all weekend, qualifying well and driving intelligently during today’s opening race. Faced with less complications than team mate John Bowe, Jones has capitalised on being the top team performer so far in Tasmania and goes into tomorrow’s action full of confidence.

After a brake failure and subsequent crash at the last round at the Indy 300, Jones is looking for a change of luck and a top 12 result this weekend. His 12th position in race one could have been better but a mistake in his pit stop proved costly.

Brad Jones

“I’m really happy with the result, my car was good and I managed to get past a few people along the way. To be inside the top 12 in any V8 Supercar race is pleasing, especially here at Symmons Plains where it is so tight.

"The only disappointment was the mistake I made in the pit stop. I let the clutch go too early and stalled which cost me a few places. It borders on being an inexcusable stuff up on my part. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, we’ve got a good chance of a good result.”
