Mark Skaife:
“HRT confirms that scrutineers found an irregularity in the Air Temperature Loom Extension, which forms part of the ECU wiring loom, in the Todd Kelly Commodore #22 as raced at Surfers Paradise last month.
As such a penalty of exclusion from Race 2 and a resultant loss of 90 Championship points was imposed. This is the minimum penalty and we will cop it on the chin!
We have also instigated an internal review to ensure that such a situation never occurs again.
I must stress the fact that the stewards agreed with HRT on the fact that the resistor wires were not connected to anything and had absolutely no effect on the performance of the car.
On a positive note, our new Chassis # 50 performed excellently in its practice debut with a third best time in the session.
The car represents the biggest architectural change for us since developing VT in 1998 and running the car late this season will give us a clear advantage for 2005.
We will be trying for pole tomorrow but it won’t be easy with 27 cars running within one second of the fastest today - so you can expect the tightest field in the championship for qualifying.”
Car #22 (#49) – Practice Session 1 (35 mins)
Position – 2nd
Fastest lap – 52.8607sec
Laps completed - 16
Todd Kelly:
“It was a real challenge to get the car set up right at a track I’d never driven on with no meaningful data on hand. Although the circuit looks reasonably simple you need to change your style to get the best out of the car.
There’s a couple of corners you need to attack in a non-traditional fashion, particularly turn 5 on of the fastest high load corners in Australia.
I’m looking to go well over the race weekend as we’re running out of time to get results, but the move to chassis #49 is certainly paying dividends.”
