FPR ON A MISSION AT SYMMONS
26/11/2004 21:52 (Press Release) -
Ford Performance Racing (FPR) drivers Craig Lowndes and
Glenn Seton return to a happy hunting ground at Tasmania's Symmons Plains
Raceway for the first time in five years this weekend.
Lowndes and Seton have raced to six podium finishes in Tasmania (including two
round victories for Lowndes 1996 and 1998 and one round victory for Seton in
1992), making them two of the most successful current drivers heading across
Bass Strait for the weekend's three 100 kilometre races. Lowndes is also the
current V8 Supercar lap record holder at the Launceston circuit.
Expected to be one of the biggest sporting events ever held in the state of
Tasmania, this weekend's 12th round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship
should also be one of the most competitive ever staged on the 2.4 kilometre
circuit.
FPR's two challengers for the round, Lowndes' CAT FPR Falcon and Seton's Ford
Credit FPV Falcon, have undergone meticulous preparation for this important
penultimate round. This has included further engine development, capitalising
on the team's improved car speed displayed during last month's Gold Coast round.
#6 Craig Lowndes - "I think that the CAT FPR Falcon has the power and the brake
package to perform very strongly at Symmons Plains. This will be my first
Tasmanian round in a Ford, so we are eager to stamp a strong blue oval result
there. I have no doubt that Marcos Ambrose will be hard to beat - he is always
a tough competitor, and being his first ever home round he will be determined
to win it. FPR has been very strong since Bathurst and the team has been
working on further engine improvements, so our Tasmanian fans should get ready
for a very exciting penultimate round."
#5 Glenn Seton - "It is fantastic to see the series return to Tasmania, giving
our Championship a truly national reach. I have sorely missed this round since
the last time I competed there in 1999. I have had some fantastic races at
Symmons Plains - this circuit has been a very happy hunting ground in the past
and Judging by the team's current form we are major podium contenders this
weekend."
FPR Chief Engineer, John Russell - "FPR looks forward to a new challenge at
Symmons Plains on the back of our strong performances at the last two rounds.
The team intends to carry on this momentum and is looking for a podium result."
The Tasmanian Triple Challenge will comprise of three races, each of a distance
of 100 kilometres. Race one takes place on Saturday (4:00pm) and the two
further races to decide the round will be held on Sunday (12:05pm & 3:00pm).
All three races will include one compulsory pit stop.
