Friday is Kids Day at the Tasmania Triple Challenge

26/11/2004 21:30 (Press Release) - Organisers of the inaugural Tasmanian Triple Challenge V8 Supercar event at Symmons Plains November 12-14 have declared the opening day of the event ‘Kids Day’.

All school aged children will be granted free access to the circuit on Friday 12 November and will be invited to watch the on-track action, tour the V8 Supercar paddock area and attend some special ‘Kids Day’ activities.

At 11.00am Ford Performance Racing’s Craig Lowndes and Glenn Seton will join Castrol Perkins Racing’s Steven Richards & Paul Dumbrell to take on World Champion Axeman David Foster in a wood chop challenge.

The two teams will contest each other before teaming up in a four-on-one challenge against the nine times Australian Axeman of the Year.

AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane said the ‘Kids Day’ initiative was part of an ongoing strategy to promote the V8 Supercar Championship Series to the younger generation.

“AVESCO are constantly looking for new ways to make the championship accessible to our younger fans and currently do so through our schools programs,” Mr Cochrane said

“By creating ‘Kids Day’ at the event we are able to expose the category to a much greater number of children.

“This is a fantastic initiative that will provide Tasmanian schools with a rare opportunity to come and experience the V8 Supercars first hand.

“As well as this, schools will be able to organise excursion groups without worrying about the cost of entry,” Cochrane concluded.

Local motor racing expert and V8 Supercar commentator Barry Oliver will host a series of special interviews following the Wood Chop Challenge.

The Targa veteran will be joined by V8 Supercar drivers John Bowe and Jason Richards for a special meet and greet with the youngsters.

Team Managers from Tasman Motorsport and Steve Ellery Racing will also donate their time to join Dunlop’s Kevin Fitzsimons in giving the students a rare insight into the logistical side of the V8 Supercar racing.
