V8 Supercars Championship Round 11 of 13
John Bowe - #12 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Race 2: 17th Race 1: 14th Qualified: 13th
Bowe’s Indy campaign has been eventful and unkind to say the least. After a dogged race yesterday, which included being hit hard from behind by Steven Johnson, today has been even tougher. Starting from 14th on the grid, he was spun by an over-exuberant Rick Kelly on the opening corner of the opening lap, relegating him to the rear of the field. A determined run in the following laps, saw Bowe climb back up the sheets to finish in 17th position, securing a valuable 105 championship points along the way.
John Bowe
“I’m not sure was Rick Kelly was doing today. Not only did he give me a decent tap in the first corner but once I starting to slide he just kept the boot in to make sure that I totally turned around. I understand that he did something similar to Jason Bright as well. It’s just stupid ! In the end we just settled for as many championship points as possible. With Garth Tander knocking on the door to take 8th place [in the championship standings] off me, it was good to get a few more points than him today.”
Brad Jones - #21 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Race 2: DNF Race 1: 13th Qualified: 25th
Jones’ barnstorming run from yesterday was quickly forgotten today when a brake failure caused the Bathurst Ford hero to collide heavily with one of the tyre barriers, ending his race on lap 15. Jones was in 14th position at the time and was battling with a group of four other cars. Like yesterday, his race lap times has been very impressive even with a bent steering arm that he suffered in the early stages of the race. The #21 OzEmail is not a lucky number for the Brad Jones racing team at present, with now both cars carrying this number suffering major damage in the past two rounds. With just a couple of weeks until the next round in Tasmania, Jones’ crew will again have their work cut out for them.
Brad Jones
“I went into ANA corner chasing Rick Kelly and suddenly I had no brakes, none what-so-ever. I knew I was going to hit something, so I tried to turn the corner so the impact was on the side of the car but I was going too fast to get it to turn. I hit the tyre wall pretty hard straight on. I’m ok but the car looks a little worse for wear. Right now, I wouldn’t want to be a white OzEmail Falcon, every time one hits the track it ends up a crumbled mess.”
