V8 Supercars Championship Round 11 of 13

John Bowe - #12 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Finished: 14th Qualified: 13th

Bowe got off to a solid start, holding his qualifying position of 13th during the opening laps. After forging his way into the top ten at half race distance, Bowe was hit from behind by Steven Johnson causing the two to spin on the back straight chicane. Regaining in 13th place, it took the Bathurst podium driver a couple of laps to settle back into a rhythm. By this point, team mate Brad Jones has managed to sneak pass and Bowe finished the race in 14th position.

John Bowe
“I was happy with the way things were going in the early stages of the race but out of nowhere, Steve Johnson whacked me from behind. I couldn’t see what happened but I can only guess that he missed his braking mark or came in with to much speed. I managed to get going again but had lost a few places. When you get hit as hard as I did, it takes a couple of laps to work out if there has been any major damage to the car. Fortunately there wasn’t but whilst I was checking I let Brad [Jones] get through, he seemed to have a really fast race car out there.”

Finished: 13th Qualified: 25th

Jones drove brilliantly to make up 12 places from his qualifying position. Struggling all weekend with his setup in what is not his regular car, he was finally able to get some consistency with laps times and that proved very effective in the race. Falling back to 27th at one stage, Jones clawed his way back, setting some of the fastest race times along the way. Passing fellow team mate John Bowe with a handful of laps to go, Jones settled for 13th position and is now looking forward to tomorrow’s final encounter.

Brad Jones
“My car was really good. The changes that we made overnight and this morning have made a big difference and I definitely feel more comfortable. Whilst a lot of the other drivers were having trouble towards the end of the race, my OzEmail Falcon was getting better and better. In fact I think I set one of my fastest times on the last lap. Tomorrow’s race is a little longer, so if today is any indication, we could well be in store for a good result, considering how bad we qualified.”
