Skaife spins, but Kelly climbs

9/11/2004 18:47 (Press Release) - Car #2 (#45) – Top 10 Shoot Out
Position – 1st
Lap Time – 1:50.84
Car #2 (#45) – RACE # 1 (22 Laps)
Position – 25th
Fastest lap – 1:52.43
Laps completed – 21

Mark Skaife:
“Today was obviously a bad end to a really good start to the day. The car was showing great signs throughout warm up and the shoot out. In the race my foot slipped off the brake pedal, and I got 100% throttle – so I was left too deep for the corner, and that was the end of that.

It’s a disappointing result, as the car was good enough to win out there today and it would have been a perfect way to go into tomorrow’s second race.”

Car #22 (#49) – Top 10 Shoot Out
Position – 8th
Lap Time – 1:51.48

Car #22 (#49) – RACE #1 (22 Laps)
Position – 3rd
Fastest lap – 1:52.41
Laps completed – 22

Todd Kelly:
“I am really happy with that result. The car was very good in qualifying, but the race was pretty tough, as we didn’t have the setup right. We need to make it a lot better for tomorrow as it certainly wasn’t near where it should have been.

"I was lucky a few of the guys in front had some dramas. I was pretty sure I had Lowndes covered when he was challenging, as it is a really tough circuit to make a pass. It’s certainly a whole lot easier to stay in front than to make a move from behind.

"I am sure we will get more speed out of the car for tomorrow’s race. We will make some changes overnight to get the car we it should have been today. I’m really looking forward to having a crack at it tomorrow!”
