9/11/2004 18:35 (Press Release) -
Atari, one of Australia’s leading sources of interactive entertainment, announce that V8 Supercars 2, released on 7 October 2004 for PlayStation 2, has become the largest selling game for all gaming formats for the period ending 20 October 2004*.
V8 Supercars 2, developed and published by Codemasters and distributed by Atari Australia, has stormed the gaming charts for the second time in 2004, with the release on 7 October 2004 of the eagerly awaited PlayStation 2 version.
Achieving the number 1 position in the All Formats chart for the second consecutive week since its release, V8 Supercars 2 previously occupied the top position with the initial release of the game on Xbox and PC in April 2004.
“The first two weeks sales have been astounding and the game is well on its way to becoming the highest selling racing game of 2004. Codemasters' reputation as the kings of the racing genre has been further enhanced by this game, with many in the industry amazed at the level that the PlayStation 2 hardware has been pushed to.”, said Mark Gilbert, Group Marketing Manager for Atari Australia.
The release of V8 Supercars 2 on PlayStation 2 features a range of new additions including a new track (Catalunya), a new Pro Sim racing mode to test the most agile of drivers, and the ability to save replays to re-live the excitement of V8 Supercar racing over again. In addition to this, V8 Supercars 2 includes the Holden Racing Team for the first time along with Ford Performance Vehicles, allowing everyone to race in a Ford Vs Holden showdown that has become the icon of Australian motor racing.
V8 Supercars 2 has brought online racing to V8 Supercar fans by supporting online play via Xbox Live and PlayStation 2 Net Play, a feature that is not included in many existing and prominent upcoming racing games.
