V8 Supercar Series raises $55,000 for the kids

9/11/2004 18:27 (Press Release) - The V8 Supercar Championship Series raised more than $55,000 for the children’s ward of the Gold Coast Hospital during this year’s Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge at the Lexmark Indy 300.

The ‘V8 Superlunch’ at Mano’s Restaurant in Main Beach auctioned numerous items including a signed David Coulthard helmet, ‘hot laps’ with greats Dick Johnson and Peter Brock as well as a host of personally signed memorabilia.

The money raised was a record for the annual event.

The lunch was attended by more than 300 Gold Coast identities, business leaders, the man on the street and a dozen V8 Supercar Championship Series drivers who offered their time and support to the children of the Gold Coast.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day and great outcome for the Gold Coast Hospital,” V8 Supercar Championship Series Tony Cochrane said of the fourth V8 Superlunch.

“This was a record in terms of the amount raised and it will go directly to the kids. They will benefit directly from our championship which is great.

“They are one of the many charities our series supports throughout the year and although we don’t make a big deal of it we are very proud of the hundreds of thousands of dollars we raise every single year for charity.”

Olympic 1500m gold medalist Grant Hackett was also in attendance and threw in signed memorabilia from his epic feats in recent Olympics.
