Special support program for Tasmanian Triple Challenge
8/11/2004 18:46 (Press Release) -
A full support program for the Tasmanian Triple Challenge was announced today with the special feature, three support categories never previously seen at the Symmons Plains circuit before.
The popular Donut King Stunt Team, Lotus Trophy and Porsche Drivers Challenge will all be part of the exciting support category line-up at the Tasmanian Triple Challenge November 12 – 14 which also includes V8 BRutes and Commodore Cup.
The V8 BRutes will bring a full contingent of stars including newly crowned champion Damien White, twice Bathurst winner and touring car legend Alan Grice, ex Sydney Roosters rugby league star Jack Elsegood, Sunrise TV presenter Grant Denyer and country singer Adam Brand.
AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane said they had worked hard to put together a superior support program to compliment the V8 Supercars.
“The Tasmanian fans are in for a real treat,” Mr Cochrane said. “The categories we have confirmed to support the V8 Supercars are second to none.
“The V8 BRutes are very popular and are guaranteed to provide some exciting racing action while the Lotus Trophy, Porsche Drivers Challenge and Donut King Stunt team have never been seen at Symmons Plains before.
“There are also plenty of off-track activities planned for the week leading into the event with all drivers taking part in autograph sessions in Hobart and Launceston and the judging of the Bartercard Miss V8Super Girls scheduled for Brisbane Street Mall on Thursday,” Cochrane added.
The Porsche Drivers Challenge will reach its championship climax at Symmons Plains and will see an increase in entries with local drivers Greg Garwood and John Pooley both lining up on the grid for the three, twenty minute races.
Stunt duo Matt Mingay and Robbie Bolger have been entertaining fans at V8 Supercar events for over five years with their amazing high speed motorcycle stunts and Ute burnout shows.
Both riders are very excited to be bringing their popular show to Tasmania for the first time.
“We are really looking forward to taking the show to Tassie,” Matt Mingay said. “We have not performed at Symmons Plains before and it always feels great to put on a show at a new venue.
“The shows will be similar to what we do at big V8 Supercar events such as Bathurst and Indy with a few modifications to allow for the narrow track.
“Logistically we will take as much equipment as a V8 Supercar team including three motorbikes, two Holden Utes, twelve motorcycle tyres, sixteen car tyres, leathers, tools and our very special crowd warmer that is sure to bring the fans to their feet,” Mingay said.
The off track activities are proving to be just as popular as the on track racing, fans in both Hobart and Launceston will be able to attend special ‘meet the drivers’ autograph sessions that will be held simultaneously in Elizabeth Street Mall, Hobart and Brisbane St Mall, Launceston at noon on Thursday 11th November.
Launcestonian’s will also be able to watch the photographic judging of the Tasmanian round of the Bartercard Miss V8Super Girl competition which will follow the ‘meet the drivers’ session in Brisbane Street Mall.
Thirty-two local and interstate beauties will be judged across three categories with the winner selected to represent Tasmania in the Bartercard V8Super Girl Grand Final at the BigPond Grand Finale, Eastern Creek Sydney in December.
