Bathurst 1000: Hour 6

10/10/2004 16:10 (Mark Jones) - Greg Murphy holds the lead at the end of the sixth hour, with just six persuuers left on the lead lap.

That number was reduced from nine after Mark Winterbottom locked the rear brakes on entry to Griffins Bend while ranging up on the outside of Garth Tander. With Winterbottom out of shape he twitched into Tander putting the Valoline Commodre into the tyre barriers. The damage to Tander's was too serious to continue.

Earlier in the hour was the sensation of the race thus far when Jim Richards struck a Kangaroo crossing the straight between Griffins Bend and the Cutting, causing extensive damage to the Castrol Commodore. The car was patched up and sent back out in an attempt to gain Steven Richards some championship points.

With less than fifteen laps to go the stops are completed. John Bowe is keeping Murphy in sight with Craig Lowndes close behind. The two Stone Brothers Falcons are next in the running order, Ingall leading Ambrose, while Warren Luff and Jason Bargwanna are also still in contention.
