V8 Supercar wrapped in bandana for National Fundraising activity

10/10/2004 7:21 (Press Release) - Australia’s premier motor racing circuit, Mount Panorama today provided the ultimate backdrop for the wrapping of a V8 Supercar in a huge bandanna today to mark the lead up to National Bandanna Day – the national fundraising project for cancer support charity, CanTeen.

At the newly constructed Mount Panorama Pit Complex, a four by four metre bandanna was wrestled onto Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon by four CanTeen members with 2003 Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 podium place-getters, Luke Youlden and Steven Ellery.

In 2004, CanTeen will celebrate the 10th anniversary of National Bandanna Day with Youlden excited to assist the organisation in the lead up to the fundraising project by becoming an ambassador for the teen orientated charity.

“CanTeen does an excellent job assisting young adults as they battle against cancer,” Youlden said, “the organisation not only supports those actually fighting cancer but also their siblings and teenagers with parents who are undergoing treatment for the disease.”

“The philosophies of CanTeen see members helping other members and providing support to each other by sharing their experiences when dealing with the uncertainties of cancer.”

It is anticipated that Youlden’s involvement in National Bandanna Day will help CanTeen sell one million bandannas to help provide vital services to the group’s members.

“Money raised from National Bandanna Day goes towards the organisation of recreation days, camps, seminars, workshops and events which provide members with the opportunity to meet people in a similar situation to themselves,” Youlden commented.

The bandanna is the symbol for the CanTeen fundraising project as it represents the hair loss which is experienced by many young people as they undergo treatment for cancer. Youlden believes it is a simple way for the community to have fun while assisting the worthwhile charity.

“National Bandanna Day is a great concept as it represents the fundamentals of the organisation – to provide support and assistance to those dealing with cancer in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere,” Youlden noted.

National Bandanna Day is Friday 29 October 2004. Bandannas can be purchased from any Woolworth’s outlet in Australia for $3.

Youlden will race with fellow Super Cheap Auto Racing team mate, Steven Ellery for the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 on Sunday 10 October 2004.
