Orrcon Racing in the Shootout at Mount Panorama
8/10/2004 22:31 (Press Release) -
Jason Bargwanna and Mark Winterbottom guaranteed their spot inside the top ten on the starting grid for Sunday’s Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 this afternoon by setting the seventh fastest time during qualifying.
Bargwanna, the more experienced of the pairing, had the qualifying duties the Number 10 Orrcon Racing Falcon around the 6.21 kilometre Mount Panorama.
With the top twenty cars separated by less than one second qualifying was very close and intense.
Bargwanna held down the fifth fastest time for the majority of the session before being pipped by nine-one hundreds of a second with moments remaining relegating him to seventh. The pace shown by Bargwanna ensured his fifth start in a top ten shootout this year.
“All weekend we have been making slight alterations to the set up and have been improving as can be seen by the time sheets,” said Bargwanna.
“Although I very rarely say that I am driving a perfect race car I think we are very close to it at the moment.”
Mark Larkham handled the qualifying duties for the second of the Orrcon Racing Falcons to finish 28th at the completion of qualifying.
“Admittedly it was a little bit further back than what I would have liked to have been, however the car is not far off, it is just so close out there the times are amazing,” said Larkham.
“Our focus is purely on getting a good race car and I think that we will definitely have a car that can provide us with a very strong race package.”
A further practice session will be held tomorrow morning with the top ten shootout in the afternoon.
Network Ten coverage of the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 continues tomorrow from Noon until 5pm with the 10-hour race telecast beginning at 7am on Sunday.
