Team BOC Falcon on Bathurst front row...again

8/10/2004 22:29 (Press Release) - Andrew Jones, aboard his Team BOC Falcon has taken pole position during today’s qualifying for the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at Bathurst’s Mt Panorama. A position that is not unfamiliar for the AU Ford, which sat on the front row in the 2002 ‘Great Race’ with John Bowe behind the wheel.

Jones was commanding, his time of 2:08:88 was half a second faster than the nearest competitor – “I’m ecstatic with the result, to be fastest around here [Mt Panorama] when you’re up against the calibre of drivers like Ritter, White and Brabham is tough.

“The Konica Minolta Series has been great all year. All you have to do is look around you to see how much it has developed.”

Commenting on his lap time, Jones said - “It’s the first time that I have ever been in the 2:08 second bracket and that shows just how good the Team BOC Falcon is. The car feels absolutely fantastic.”

Jones will now tackle a 25 lap race tomorrow with the Konica Minolta Series taking on a support role this weekend and Jones is eager to continue his dominance of the category this year – “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s race and I’d really like to win it for the team and BOC. Their commitment to me this year has been amazing, so if we can win it, I’ll dedicated to them.”

Jones’ dual role with his Team BOC responsibilities and lead driver role of the number 21 OzEmail Falcon has left schedules very tight. In fact he wasn’t even able to attend the post qualifying media conference due to the necessity to be in the OzEmail Falcon for the main qualifying session.

When questioned on whether it was affecting his driving ability, Jones joked – “I’m right, I’m an athlete.”

“Doing so well in the Konica Minolta qualifying has really boosted my confidence heading into this [the main series qualifying]. Hopefully we can get a good result for the race on Sunday,” Jones added.

Tomorrow’s 25 lap Konica Minolta V8 Supercar race will the one of the highlights of Saturday’s action at Bathurst, with the Top Ten Shootout for the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 getting top billing. Live coverage of Andrew Jones’s attempt to whitewash this year’s series starts on Network Ten at 1.15pm.
