Solid start at Mount Panorama for Paul Cruickshank Racing team
8/10/2004 22:28 (Press Release) -
The Paul Cruickshank Racing Team got off to a solid start on the opening day of the Bob Jane Tmarts 1000 event with both Konica Minolta cars sitting inside the top ten after the first practice session and Jonathan Webb qualifying fifth for the first Carrera Cup race.
Kevin Mundy who is competing in his last full time event with the Gold Coast based team sat consistently in the top four before being bumped to fifth on the closing lap of the first practice session.
The PCR/Actron Air Racing driver said he had set himself the target of sitting inside the top five.
“I was really pleased with where we finished today,” Mundy said. “I had hoped to be in the top five and I really wasn’t pushing the car too hard as it was a bit twitchy going across the top of the mountain.
“My tyres were pretty crappy so with a fresh set and some small overnight changes I am pretty confident we can pull off a top five qualifying place.
Mundy’s team mate Marcus Zukanovic was impressive in his first ever drive around the famous 6.2 kilometre circuit keeping his Ford Falcon AU on the bitumen and finishing the session in tenth place.
Zukanovic said he was a kid living his dream as he steered his Ford Falcon AU around the notorious circuit for the first time.
“I realised a boyhood dream today,” Zukanovic said. “I took it pretty easy and tried to slowly dial into things.
“I was really pleased with tenth in the first session with a bit more track time tomorrow I am sure I will move up the time sheets a bit come qualifying.
