Kids enjoy inaugural Caltex Chase Great Race
8/10/2004 22:19 (Press Release) -
Six youth sporting clubs from Bathurst and the surrounding region came together today for the inaugural “Caltex Chase Great Race” at Mt Panorama.
Almost 50 young stars from the age of six to 13 and a variety of sports did battle for the inaugural title which included a $1000 cheque for the winners, presented by two-time race winner and Caltex Racing Ford driver Russell Ingall.
The inaugural title was won by Bathurst Panthers Junior Rugby Leaguer Club from Bathurst Little Athletics and St Pats, representing the Bathurst Soccer Association.
“I think this was a great concept and the kids really got into it,” said Ingall.
“I think there should be more events like this that involve the local Bathurst community and especially the kids.
“I think Caltex must be applauded from coming up with the $1800 in prizemoney, which I am sure will be a great help for these junior clubs.
“The young guys from Bathurst Panthers were pretty quick, I hope we are that quick at the weekend.”
Ironically, the event was held in Caltex Chase which was actually constructed several years ago with money provided by Caltex Australia.
Caltex’s Brand Manager Fuels and Lubricants, Steve Wruck, says that he hopes to make the Caltex Chase Great Race and annual event at the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 and that event more clubs will be involved next year.
“I think this is a great way for Caltex to give back to the community and for us and the kids to have a bit of fun at the same time,” said Wruck.
“I think all the kids looked great in their Caltex Racing caps and hopefully Russell has even a few more fans after today. I am sure they will all be cheering for him on Sunday.”
First practice for this year’s Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 will be tomorrow at 11am.
