CATŪ makes its mark on Mount Panorama

8/10/2004 22:18 (Press Release) - Caterpillar's Asia-Pacific Division has placed an indelible footprint on the majestic Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst in time for this year's Bob Jane T-Marts 1000.

Turn two, the fast and exciting start of the rise to the top of the legendary Mount Panorama circuit has become CAT Corner for this year's 1000 kilometre V8 Supercar enduro, the tenth round of the 2004 Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series.

This is the first time that Caterpillar has taken a major sponsorship package with corner and pit lane signage rights at the Great Race, following in the footsteps of the global company's highly successful motor racing team and venue sponsorships in the United States.

Title sponsors of the CAT Ford Performance Racing (FPR) Falcon piloted by triple V8 Supercar Champion Craig Lowndes and double Champion Glenn Seton, this powerful driving combination returns to the mountain aiming to go one better than their superb second placing last year.

This major Ford team's alliance with Caterpillar ensures that both team's B-Double transporters are powered by the market leading CAT C-15 heavy-duty diesel engines, while the team's pit crew uses quality CAT maintenance tools working on the CAT FPR V8 Falcon. All FPR race crew members also make use of CAT branded footwear for safety and comfort.

The Caterpillar sponsored FPR Team will be fielding two Falcons at this year's Bob Jane T-Marts 1000, the second entry being driven by double British Touring Car Champion Alain Menu and 1998 Australian Formula Ford Champion Adam Macrow.

Drivers Menu and Macrow were on hand to unveil CAT Corner to the media at Mount Panorama today, marking the event by driving two CAT skid steers through CAT Corner at a substantially slower pace than that required for a strong result in Sunday's six and a half hour, 1000 kilometre race of man and machine.

According to Caterpillar's Rod Beeler, Asia-Pacific Division Vice President of Marketing, "We're proud to support this significant Australian sporting event and one of the world's most famous motor races by sponsoring this high-performance Ford team. A great many of our customers truly follow and enjoy these events, and they really appreciate our involvement. We're looking forward to great exposure with CAT Corner and value the opportunity to extend our presence at this venue "
