Dexion covers Power Department
8/10/2004 22:13 (Press Release) -
If there is one race track in Australia that thrives on horsepower, it’s Bathurst. Mount Panorama’s fast, undulating, and daunting nature places extreme emphasis on power and performance and the ‘Hill of Skill’ is sure to test the best drivers and teams from Australia and around the world this weekend.
And with the power department in mind, Dexion Racing are confident they won’t be lacking in that area during the Konica Minolta 25 lap Challenge this Saturday.
The John Sidney-prepared powerplant in the #300 Ford Falcon has just received its very first freshen-up for the year and filed some impressive numbers on the dyno.
Team driver Tony Evangelou knows the importance of extra horsepower, particularly at Bathurst. It was here on the mountain back in 2002 where he finished seventh in his old Holden Commodore VS. Evangelou and the team see no reason why a similar result can’t be achieved in this non-championship race amongst tougher competition.
“We’ll have a bit more torque, which will help our cause,” said Evangelou.
“It will certainly make our Bathurst package better. And I love the track. I haven’t had enough laps around there yet to feel confident but after the first practice session, we’ll be on it. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Dexion team member David Page claimed that the fresh engine, plus a well-balanced and prepared car will see the red and white Ford push the top 10 runners.
“The engine will be as good, if not better than what it was at the start of the year,” Page said.
“We are going to Bathurst with every confidence. The car will be quick, Tony will have good gear under his bum and he’s proven he can do it at that track before.”
Dexion’s toughest challengers at Mount Panorama this weekend will be reigning Konica Champion, Andrew Jones, along with Stone Brothers Racing’s Greg Ritter, Matthew White, Alan Gurr and Aussie International David Brabham.
The Konica Minolta V8s will have their first outing on the track on Friday, where they’ll complete practice and qualifying, before their fourth annual race on Saturday afternoon, which will be broadcast live on Network 10.
Dexion’s corporate guests will again get treated like kings in Bathurst’s brand-new pit facilities. Not only will they be wined and dined, but they will be given a large serving of on-track action, which includes the Konica Minolta race, Carrera Cup, Formula Ford and, of course, ‘The Great Race’, the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000.
