White to tackle logistical battle at Bathurst

8/10/2004 22:10 (Press Release) - This year at Mt Panorama, Matthew White will be juggling not only the responsibility of driving in the Bathurst 1000 for top level team, PWR Racing but he will also be managing and driving for his own team, MWR Motorsport in the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series 25-lap support race.

“Being a small team I take care of many of the logistical and administrative jobs such as travel, accommodation, meals and ensuring we are complying with the track regulations race”, White explained “We have had an intense lead up to Bathurst ensuring that every detail has been taken care of before we reach the track.”

“Driving in the Konica Minolta race at Bathurst takes second priority to my commitments with PWR. However even with that attitude we’ve proven to be pretty competitive at Bathurst year after year.”

White will again pair with Marcus Marshall in the PWR Commodore and are looking to build on their strong showing at the Sandown 500 where they finished in 11th position - “The result at Sandown has been a great boost to our confidence heading in to Bathurst.”

“To finish in 11th position was a great effort considering I had only done 12 laps in the car and Marcus (Marshall) had done none.”

Commenting on the huge job in front of him White said modestly – “This is the third year the team has managed the Konica Minolta race while I concentrated on my driving. I know it will be tough but am confident that I will be competitive in both races”

Some of the periods between sessions are tight but PWR are keen to see me do as many laps around the ‘Mountain’ as possible, so they have been very accommodating with combining both of my schedules. PWR have even made sure that I get a moment between sessions to gather my thoughts.”

White has had an impressive history at Bathurst with a hard fought 3rd place last year in the Konica Minolta race and is relishing the opportunity to add to his record with this years assault on Mount Panorama.

Practice for the Bathurst 1000 starts at Mount Panorama on Thursday October 7. The Konica Minolta support race is on Saturday October 9 followed by the Bob Jane T Marts 1000 on Sunday.
