Halliday doubling up at Bathurst
2/10/2004 22:11 (Press Release) -
New Zealander Matt Halliday will be one busy little beaver at Bathurst next weekend when he competes in both the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 aboard the Orrcon Racing Falcon and a Porsche GT3 the penultimate round of the Carrera Cup Championship.
“She’s going to be a full on weekend but everyone keeps telling me the more laps you do around Bathurst the better you are for the long race on Sunday,” said Halliday.
Halliday made his debut in V8 Supercars at Sandown last month driving alongside former Bathurst 1000 pole sitter and Orrcon Racing team owner Mark Larkham.
With Halliday never visiting the daunting Mount Panorama circuit before when the opportunity arose to compete in the Carrera Cup Championship with International Motorsport NZ Halliday jumped at the opportunity to gain more laps around the famous circuit.
“Bathurst is one track that I have always wanted to race at and now I am getting my opportunity to do it, the more laps I can do on one of the world’s most famous circuits the better I say,” said Halliday.
“I think that I will benefit two fold, I will get more laps around the track and also have a closer feel for the track conditions as most of the Carrera Cup sessions are just prior to the V8’s are on track.”
Halliday’s performance in his two Australian Carrera Cup appearances this year have been impressive recording a race win at the Australian Grand Prix before claiming a pair of top three finishes at Winton in late July.
The on track action at the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 begins next Thursday with opening practice followed by qualifying on Friday, the Top Ten Shootout on Saturday and 1000 km race on Sunday.
