Kanga Loaders Racing get top level support

2/10/2004 22:08 (Press Release) - Gold Coast V8 Supercar team, Kanga Loaders Racing has today announced major plans to tackle this years Bathurst Konica Minolta race and the tier 2 V8 Supercar Championship for the next three years with the support of leading V8 Supercar outfit – Steve Ellery Racing.

After a successful foray into the Brute Ute category in 2001, 2002 and 2003, Kanga Loaders Racing entered the highly competitive arena of V8 Supercars in 2004, finishing inside the top ten and taking out the leading rookie team and driver award in the Konica Minolta Series.

According to team owner and Kanga Loader’s Director Alan Porter, Bathurst and the next three years is about taking the next step - “We’ve never been content for 2nd best, so we have used a strategic partnership with top level team, Steve Ellery Racing to ensure our future and investment in the sport will be successful.”

No stranger to motorsport, Porter, a top ten finisher in the ‘Around Australia Trial’ and winning builder of ‘Australia’s Top Street Rod’, claims that along with driver Gary MacDonald, Kanga Loaders Racing is destined for big things – “Our first event with the SER prepared car is Bathurst and Gary [MacDonald] has the peace of mind knowing he will be in the same car that finished equal first in this years Konica Minolta Championship. Be well assured that our attitude towards Bathurst is the same as the next three years, and that’s to win!”

Equally excited about Kanga Loaders Racing’s future is driver Gary MacDonald, who has already impressed the motorsport world with his second placing in the Brute Ute Series in 2003 and his outstanding rookie V8 Supercar year in 2004.

“These days to finish in the top four or five in the Konica Minolta Series you need the support of a top level team and access to their specialised staff like engineers, engine builders and management expertise. With Steve Ellery Racing and Kanga Loaders both based on the Gold Coast it was easier to make the arrangement come together,” said MacDonald.

With just over a week until Australia’s ‘Great Race’ at Mt Panorama, MacDonald has big expectations in what will be his inaugural V8 Supercar outing on the daunting track – “ This will be my first time in a V8 Supercar at Bathurst and while I have raced in other categories around the circuit, I know this year it is going to be a lot different.”

“We are running the race at Bathurst as an opportunity to gel as a team so we can come out firing next year. Our aim is high and Kanga Loaders are not in motor racing to run at the back of the field.”

MacDonald’s thoughts on the next three years are simple – “We are out to win the championship and now we have the team and the equipment to give it our best shot.”

Newly appointed Business Manager to the SER operation, Doug Rohl believes the partnership is a win-win situation – “Kanga Loaders Racing can go into Bathurst and the next three years knowing they will have state-of-the-art equipment and skills behind them. For SER, we can gain better economies of scale in what is a very expensive sport.”
