RSPCA superhero - Craig Lowndes
28/9/2004 13:12 (Press Release) -
Three-time V8 Supercar Champion, Craig Lowndes is to be announced as an RSPCA Superhero during the RSPCA's National Awareness Week (27 September - 4 October).
In his role as an official ambassador, Lowndes will use his public profile to support the valuable work of the RSPCA, and will speak out against cruelty to animals along with many other animal welfare issues.
“I'm really honoured to be an ambassador for the RSPCA?I love animals and this is a cause I'm very excited about,?Craig Lowndes said.
“I have made an on-going commitment and hope to be able to make a difference, I do not just want to be a face for the charity; I want to help and educate people about animal welfare.?
“The RSPCA not only helps prevent animal cruelty, it also provides services such as animal hospitals and educational services for the whole community.?
Lowndes is best known for his multiple V8 Supercar Championship titles, however when the helmet comes off he is passionate about another form of 'horse power'.
Away from the racetrack, Lowndes has an affinity with animals, especially the equine variety, and is currently undertaking horse whisperer training.
“Horses are such amazing, noble creatures; I really wanted to understand them better and doing the horse whispering course has been an incredible experience,?Lowndes said.
The popular V8 star is also actively involved in animal welfare, including a drought-relief program in which several horses affected by severe water shortages in New South Wales have been relocated to his south-east Queensland property.
Lowndes generously provided financial support to facilitate the transportation of 10 horses to his own farm where he and his wife Natalie now care for them at no expense to the animals' owner.
In addition, Lowndes has a fox terrier and nine horses of his own, including two miniature horses.
“Motorsport is a very hectic and demanding industry?spending time at home with my animals is the best way to unwind and recharge,?Lowndes said.
Lowndes will be joined by Channel Nine's McLeod's Daughters actor, Simmone Jade Mackinnon and pyjama king, Peter Alexander as RSPCA Superheroes.
RSPCA Awareness Week coincides with World Animal Day on Monday 4 October.
