Mark Noske joins Smiths Trucks Racing for Bathurst endurance event
28/9/2004 13:11 (Press Release) -
V8 Supercar Driver Mark Noske has joined the Smiths Trucks Racing Team for the Bob Jane Tmarts 1000. Noske will take a lead drivers role when he teams up with Smiths Trucks Racing regular Lee Holdsworth for the 1000 kilometre endurance race.
The Smiths Trucks Racing Team was presented with an opportunity to have Mark Noske drive the car in Australia’s ‘Great Race?and despite being very comfortable with the two drivers they had employed, felt there was no way they could pass up the opportunity to have a seasoned driver in car given the circumstances.
The Smiths Trucks Racing team is unlikely to be able to test in the lead up to the Bathurst event due to the extensive damage caused by an air box fire on lap sixteen at the Betta Electrical Sandown 500.
Team Owner Robert Smith said it was a very tough decision to change drivers but he didn’t feel they could pass up the opportunity.
“Phil has done a terrific job for us but given our unusual situation and the fact we are not going to be able to test prior to Bathurst I just felt Mark was a bit more seasoned and would be able to help us get on top of the car a lot quicker.
“The car has sustained a lot more damage than it needed to and had the fire marshals acted a bit quicker at Sandown we might not be in this predicament.
Mark Noske is looking forward to the challenge of getting the VY Commodore going for what is arguably the biggest race of the year.
“I was really pleased to be able to put something together this late in the year,?Noske said.
“It is a great opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a VY Commodore.
“The team are working around the clock and doing everything they can to try and get a test day in before we head to Bathurst.
“I will be trying to teach Lee as much as I can about the track and hopefully we will go out and surprise a few people,?Noske said.
