V8Supercars prepare to head north

18/9/2004 18:02 (Press Release) - V8 Supercars will roar into North Queensland next week bringing with it all of the energy and excitement associated with the world’s greatest touring car category.

AVESCO (Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company), in conjunction with Castrol Formula R and a number of V8 Supercar Series sponsors including platform sponsor BigPond, have developed the Castrol Formula R V8 Supercars Road Trip.

The Castrol Formula R V8 Supercars Road Trip is a comprehensive promotional Road Show that has been developed to travel along the Queensland coast stopping in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville to meet the demands of V8 Supercar fans that are currently deprived of the V8 Supercars experience.

Castrol Perkins Motorsport drivers Steven Richards, Paul Dumbrell, Tony Longhurst and Bathurst legend Larry Perkins will be travelling with the Road Show as well as Ford Performance Racing drivers Craig Lowndes and Glenn Seton who will attend select towns on the five stop tour.

Fans will get the opportunity to ride in the V8 Supercar simulator, which gives people the opportunity to drive around the infamous Mount Panorama circuit in the Ford Performance Racing Falcon with leading V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes, as well as witness the Castrol Donut King Stunt team in action.

AVESCO Chief Executive Officer Wayne Cattach said the Castrol Formula R V8 Supercar Road Trip is a great initiative to bring V8 Supercars into an untapped market.

“We have an enormous fan base in North Queensland that does not get the opportunity to experience up close the excitement of V8 Supercars and its stars,” Mr Cattach said.

“This is a unique opportunity for the fans to hear from their drivers and enjoy some of the unique characters of this iconic sport.”

For the very first time, V8 Supercar fans in north Queensland will be provided with the opportunity to interact with V8 Supercar drivers, get hands on with some of the latest cutting edge Broadband technology available by looking through the BigPond Mobile Media Centre, get up close and personal with V8 Supercar Show Cars, purchase Ford and Holden team merchandise and win some fantastic prizes.

BigPond Managing Director Justin Milne echoed Mr Cattach’s comments, adding that the Road Trip has provided BigPond with the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing content on offer to BigPond Broadband customers.

“The most exciting aspect of BigPond’s involvement in the V8 Supercar Championship has been our ability, via the V8 Supercar Broadband site, to bring the action and excitement of the series to fans no matter where they are in Australia,” Mr Milne said.

“The Road Trip takes that one step further and will really bring home to visitors how spectacular and impressive the V8 Supercar series really is.”

North Queensland V8 Supercar fans will also get the chance to bid for V8 Supercar items in each town, including V8 Supercar bonnets, guards and wheel rims with all of the money raised to be presented to Queensland’s Royal Flying Doctor Service at the final destination in Townsville on Saturday 25th September.

Leading oil company Castrol will also donate to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in an announcement made by Castrol Australia Pty Limited Marketing Director Andrew Johnson this week.

"Castrol loves supporting events that further bring to life the excitement of V8 Supercars, especially in those areas that currently miss out on the live action,” Mr Johnson said.

“To also help the Royal Flying Doctor Service makes the Road Show an even greater event for both the passionate motorsport fan & broader community.”

The AVESCO B-Double Transporter, BigPond Mobile Media Centre and the Castrol Perkins Motorsport and Ford Performance Racing Merchandise Transporters will roll into Bundaberg at 2pm on Sunday 19th September.

The official launch of the Castrol Formula R V8 Supercar Road Trip will be held at the Bundaberg Kart Club at 9.30am Monday 20th September with local sporting heroes such as National Kart Champion Kel Treseder in attendance.
