Bathurst Champion Greg Murphy releases new 'Murph's Law' book

18/9/2004 17:59 (Press Release) - Reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Greg Murphy has hit the bookstands by releasing his autobiography, ‘Murph’s Law’. The book, released across Australia and New Zealand, covers the colourful Kiwi’s career from humble beginnings in go kart racing in his homeland, through to his rise to becoming one of the most popular drivers in the V8 Supercar category.

Published by Phantom House and written in conjunction with New Zealand Autocar magazine chief editor Paul Owen, the 240-page book, complete with colour photographs, is available at Angus & Robertson and all good book stores.

“It’s a good read with all sorts of stories from my time in racing,” says Murphy, who will team up with Rick Kelly next month in a bid to defend their Bathurst 1000 crown.

“I’ve managed to squeeze a lot of experiences into that time and I thought there were some interesting stories that many racing fans wouldn’t have heard before.”

Murphy recalls his time racing for the Holden Racing Team, the shock of being told there wasn’t a full-time drive available for him at the end of 1997, his American IndyCar racing aspirations and the establishment in 2001 of his current team, Kmart Racing.

Such has been the overwhelming response to ‘Murph’s Law’ in New Zealand, a second print run has had to be ordered, proving undoubtedly that Murphy is among the country’s top sporting personalities.

A three-time Bathurst 1000 winner, the 32-year-old Kiwi resides in Melbourne with wife Monique and sons Ronan and Cormac.

He is a former winner of the New Zealand Grand Prix, the Bathurst 24 Hour, and a two-time Sandown 500 winner.

Retailing for $39.95 including GST, ‘Murph’s Law’ will also be available from the Kmart Racing merchandise truck at the upcoming Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.

The book can also be ordered on Murphy’s official web site, www.murph.co.nz
