Young gun joins Dynamik line-up

5/9/2004 23:13 (Press Release) - V8 Supercar challengers Team Dynamik has backed one of Australia’s champion young drivers – Will Davison - for its enduro lineup. Australian Formula Ford champion in 2001, Davison, just 22, will join the Team for the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 – the two most prestigious rounds of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Davison will partner regular Team Dynamik driver Dale Brede in the Roadships #45, while current GT Nations Cup series leader Paul Stokell joins regular driver Simon Wills in the Roadships #44.

The 22-year-old Davison was thrilled at the chance to race the Dynamik V8 in the Sandown 500 (10-12 September) around the 3.1km circuit in Melbourne. He has just completed a stint racing open-wheelers in Europe.

“I was absolutely thrilled when I heard I was driving for Dynamik. I’ve gathered some good race miles in the car in the past meetings and I’m starting to feel really confident in the car,” he said.

Davison has driven car #14 for Imrie Motorsport at the past two V8 Supercar rounds, qualifying strongly at both and showing real aptitude in the Holden VY Commodore.

Team Dynamik race director Oscar Fiorinotto expected Davison and Brede to combine well in the enduros: “Dale has shown great pace in his racing and in the longer enduros he’ll have a chance to shine. Will has shown great pace with limited opportunities and both drivers have shown they can keep the car straight and that will be important in the enduros, where finishing is the critical factor. At Bathurst and Sandown they are definitely potential Top 10 finishers.”

This Sandown round will hold a special significance to Davison and his family. He will be racing against elder brother Alex, driving for the Castrol Perkins Racing team, on a circuit where their grandfather, Lex Davison, died in race practice in 1965.

But come race day, Davison will push family ties aside and concentrate on his best for Team Dynamik. “I’ve never really raced against Alex in cars … but he’ll also be out there to do his best,” Will said. “He’ll be just another driver that I’ve got to beat!”

Will is no stranger to victory at Sandown: “I’ve always gone well there in Formula Ford, and I won there in 2000 a couple of times.”

Davison’s appointment was confirmed through the week, and he will spend the next 10 days in Adelaide with Team Dynamik leading into a September 2 test day at Mallala.

“The test day will be great to refine some of the finer points of driving Supercars, and driving in enduros,” he said. “But there’s no way to bypass the learning process in motorsport – you just have to get in the car and race!”
