Top ten qualifying for PCR/Actron Air Racing

PCR/Actron Air Racing’s Marcus Zukanovic has recorded his best ever qualifying result at the final round of the 2004 Konica Minolta Series at Adelaide’s Mallala Motorsport Park today.
After finishing sixteenth quickest in the day’s earlier practice session Zukanovic was forced into the bottom fifty per cent for the afternoons qualifying sessions.
Zukanovic jumped to the top of the time sheets early in the session and consistently reduced his times as the session progressed to finish with a time of 1.09.10, only four tenths off Greg Ritter’s pole position time of 1.08.62.
Ecstatic with his result Zukanovic said he had made the best use of his new tyres today.
“I finally managed to make use of my new tyres today,” Zukanovic said. “My time improved by 1.7seconds from practice to qualifying.
“The car felt great and I managed to string a few good laps together which really paid off.
“Today’s result was my best every qualifying result in V8 Supercars and I think I am really starting to get comfortable in the car.
There was no such luck for Zukanovic’s team mate Kevin Mundy who struggled for pace in all three sessions qualifying a disappointing twenty fourth.
“That was without a doubt my worst ever qualifying result,” Mundy said. “The team are going to do an engine change tonight as it felt like was down on power in all of the sessions today.
“I am confident we can turn things around tomorrow and as Marcus has shown today the cars are capable of sitting comfortably inside the top ten.
The first of three Konica Minolta V8 races gets underway at Mallala Motorsport Park tomorrow at 11.25am with race two at 1.20pm and race three at 3.10pm.
