Ellery faces challenges at Oran Park
16/8/2004 12:16 (Press Release) -
Super Cheap Auto Racing’s Steven Ellery has worked against adversity to finish round eight of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship after two challenging races at Oran Park Raceway today.
After starting from grid position 18, Ellery completed a steady and consistent first half of race one and was sitting in 14th position after a killer pit stop was completed by the Super Cheap Auto Racing crew. However, the good work was all undone on lap 43 when Ellery was involved in an incident with John Bowe.
“It was disappointing more than anything,” Ellery said, “the guys did a fantastic pit stop which saw Super Cheap Auto Racing make up six positions once everybody had completed their tyre stop.”
“I was happy with the pace of the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon and felt as though we had the pace to finish the race inside the top 12 until the altercation.”
Ellery recovered from the incident and fought back in the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon to finish the first race in 17th position.
In the second race, Ellery made his way through the pack after being outside the top 20 and was 14th when the compulsory pit stop window opened.
Ten laps after the closure of the compulsory pit stop window, Ellery had to make an unscheduled stop after the front right tyre has a flat spot. A lap later, another detour into the pits was made due to a worn front bumper which required replacing.
“It was disappointing having to complete two extra pit stops during the second race because we had genuine race pace throughout today,” Ellery noted.
“At least I was able to get back on the track and get some more points in my championship bank account.”
Ellery finished the second race in 29th position.
In three weeks time the first of the endurance race of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship will take place and Luke Youlden will join Ellery for the Betta Electrical Sandown 500.
The pairing finished second in the race last year and are looking forward to returning the circuit which brought their best result of 2003. The Betta Electrical Sandown 500 commences on the 10th September 2004.
Youlden will also compete in the final round of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship at Mallala next weekend and will be striving to win the series which he currently leads.
