Bowe to start from rear of the grid
15/8/2004 13:52 (Press Release) -
BJR’s John Bowe will start tomorrow’s opening race of the V8 Supercar Championship round at Sydney’s Oran Park Raceway from last place after a minor indiscretion today.
Bowe, who was busy talking on his in-car radio, failed to observe a signal to attend a random weigh-in of his car whilst coming into pit lane at the end of the qualifying session. The small error was dealt with immediately by stewards, excluding Bowe from the qualifying results.
“Rules are rules and we’ll cop it on the chin. It was a completely honest mistake and the stewards took that into consideration,” said Bowe.
“Our only consolation is that we have a car that was capable of being well inside the top ten,” Bowe added.
Commenting on what’s in store for him during tomorrow’s races, Bowe said further – “It’s is going to be tough, especially in the opening race. It will be a matter of making up as many places as we can and being in a position in race two to score some serious championship points.”
“Trying to pass around Oran Park is hard at the best of times, let alone coming from the back but it’ll be a bit of fun,” Bowe concluded.
Brad Jones will be looking for the same sort of form that has seen him be a serious top ten contender in the last two rounds. Smart team strategy and fast race pace has made a few people sit back and look at the BJR team owner of late. Although starting from 22nd, he will have his work cut out for him.
“I’m not going to have the same chance to make up spots with an early pit stop in this round. The crazy decision mid-week to change the pit stop window to be from lap 20 to 30 has put paid to that,” said Jones.
“We’ll be competitive though. These two race formats suit us and I’m looking forward to just chipping away and getting a good result by the end of the weekend,” Jones concluded.
Tomorrow has two 150km races on the schedule with compulsory pit stops in both for tyres. As mentioned, the window for the stops has been drastically reduced to be just ten laps between lap 20 to 30.
