AVESCO clarifies V8 Supercar technical breach penalties

The Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company (AVESCO) has made it clear that any breach of the sport’s technical regulations, regardless of the circumstances, will result in the car concerned being excluded from the sessions in which the breach was known to have been in place.
The rule change was brought into effect following requests from a variety of V8 Supercar Championship Series stakeholders that there be a more concise ruling following a technical breach found in the car of current champion Marcos Ambrose at Queensland Raceway on July 4.
AVESCO Chief Executive Officer Wayne Cattach said that the rule change was now in effect. The decision was reached after meetings of the Touringcar Entrants Group Australia (TEGA) in consultation with all V8 Supercar Championship Series teams and stakeholders following the running of the Queensland event.
The following is correspondence sent to all stakeholders:
“The TEGA Board, following extensive consideration of the level of penalty that should be applied for infringements of the Technical Regulations has formed the view that the FIA system under which competition is conducted gives all competitors the absolute right to know that their fellow competitors’ Cars comply with the technical regulations, at all times.
”On this basis, the TEGA Board has formed the view that the minimum penalty that should be applied for a proven breach of the technical regulations related to Cars by a Competitor, as a result of a Stewards inquiry, is exclusion of that Car from the portion of the Meeting in which the breach has been detected. (For the avoidance of doubt, this means that should a breach be detected during a qualifying session, the Car should be excluded from that qualifying session. If a breach is detected during or following a race, the Car should be excluded from that race.)
”This Rule change has been made at the request of the TEGA board as advised to Teams on the 19th July in their Board Meeting Teams Update 0304. Nothing in this policy should serve to prevent the Stewards from applying any other additional penalties that they deem appropriate.”
