Productive test day for Dexion Racing
14/8/2004 15:23 (Press Release) -
On their fifth test day for the year, Konica Minolta V8 Supercar team Dexion Racing completed their best and most productive test day for 2004. Their four previous test sessions had been dogged by bad weather, but at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday, Dexion driver Tony Evangelou clocked up 75 laps on the cold, green but useful rural track.
Evangelou set times consistently in the 1 minute 25 second bracket around the 3.0 kilometre circuit, which was encouraging considering the quality of tyres that they had in their stockpile.
Team Manager David Moulden confirmed that this was the Dexion Racing team’s most encouraging day ever.
“It’s the first time we’ve been able to test properly,’ said young team leader.
“The tyres we used were shagged but we’ve made the car balance as good as it’s ever been. We had the opportunity to play around with shock adjustments, ride height, roll centre, spring rubbers and even the rear wing.
“The Dexion Ford will be much better at Mallala, without a doubt. We’ve learnt a bit as far as tyre pressures go as well. There were many encouraging signs that we can take out of the day.”
The next stop on the Konica Minolta V8 calendar is the final round
of the championship at South Australia’s Mallala Motorsport Park. The series goes down to the wire and as many as eight drivers have a mathematical chance of being crowned the champion. The men most likely though are Ford drivers Luke Youlden, Andrew Jones and Owen
Kelly who are separated by just 15 points.
Moulden claims that Dexion Racing’s hopes are ambitious, yet realistic in the competitive series.
“We’ll go to Mallala with the same objective as we have all year. Qualify in the top 10 and finish in the top 10. We’ve got to be realistic against this field.”
