Pole position sets new standards for Team Kiwi Racing
14/8/2004 15:10 (Press Release) -
Team Kiwi Racing's Craig Baird has set a new standard for Team Kiwi Racing to aim for throughout the remainder of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship and beyond.
Baird achieved his first pole position at Winton Raceway in the TKR All Black V8 Supercar on the weekend after four and a half years of competing in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship.
This puts Baird and Team Kiwi Racing into a select group of drivers and teams who have achieved a pole position out of the current teams competing in the V8 Supercar Championship.
"I have wanted a Pole position for so long and no one can take this achievement away from myself or the team now"
"To achieve a pole position is like winning an gold medal at the Olympics, it is one chance against the best teams and drivers in the Championship at that very time, of which you are either the best on the day or you are not". Said Baird.
Baird showed that in the Top Ten shoot out he was the best on the day and took his first ever pole position by 3/10ths of a second from second position in a brilliant display of his driving ability in trying conditions.
With over half of the V8 Supercar field having never achieved a pole position as a driver and or team, this effort by Baird and Team Kiwi Racing is a very positive achievement and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Team Kiwi Racing are currently 13th in the V8 Supercar Championship, the top privateer team and the top single car team in the Championship heading into round eight of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship at Oran Park Raceway in Sydney on the 13th - 15th August 2004.
