BJR Qualifying update
14/8/2004 15:01 (Press Release) -
Winton Saturday Qualifying - Consistent rain marred today’s two practice sessions and qualifying at Winton Raceway making driving conditions treacherous for both the OzEmail drivers. Multiple red flag stoppages throughout the day added to the frustration with Brad and John unable to maintain any sort of flow on the track.
John Bowe’s qualifying position of 15th was not a true reflection of his performances today. After setting the 4th and 9th fastest times during the practice sessions, he found himself unable to get a clean run in the shortened and combined qualifying.
Brad Jones couldn’t repeat his excellent form from yesterday, struggling with a wet weather balance in his OzEmail Falcon. Like JB, he wasn’t able to find clear laps in the congested qualifying show down and will start from 26th place.
John Bowe
“We put brand new wet weather tyres on for qualifying which in hind sight was a mistake because they took too long to come up to temperature. With the amount of red flags, it was impossible to get enough time to punch in a good lap. It’s frustrating because for most of the day we had a pretty fast car. The conditions were very, very slippery and it took everything I had just to stay on the track.”
Brad Jones
“It shows how much a single day can mean in V8 Supercars. Yesterday, in the dry, we had a good car package, today we couldn’t find any sort of balance in the wet. The difference being is that yesterday means ‘diddly’ and what happened today means we’re starting from 26th. In qualifying, I wasn’t able to get the car sorted out and get into any sort of clear air until the last few minutes and when the officials ended the session early, it put paid to any chance I had of a reasonable result.
