Ellery Predicts Advantage Out Of Misfortune
14/8/2004 14:56 (Press Release) -
Steven Ellery has forecasted success for Super Cheap Auto Racing at round seven of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship and will draw on his qualifying position to avoid the carnage during tomorrow’s race at Winton Motor Raceway.
Ellery qualified 27th this afternoon in extremely wet conditions which inhibited the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon from achieving a time which could have put Ellery inside the top five.
“Every time I got on a flying lap the red flag would come out or I got stuck behind traffic,” Ellery said, “it was frustrating considering the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was inside the top 10 in the practice session prior to qualifying.”
"My first two splits on the last lap were extremely quick and suggested the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon could have qualified inside the top five but the red flag came out unexpectedly and put a complete stop to the session.”
Ellery is anticipating weather conditions similar to today for tomorrow’s single 300 kilometre race at Winton Motor Raceway and as a result considers his qualifying position a blessing in disguise.
“Tomorrow there will be a lot of people caught out by the wet conditions during the race and with that there will be a lot of accidents and safety car periods,” Ellery commented.
“With the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon further back off the start means we should be able to keep clear of the carnage which is associated with being in the mid field.”
“It is a long race tomorrow and judging by the number of red flags during practice and qualifying today, it will be those who can manage the conditions and stay out of trouble that will benefit.”
This thought is echoed by Ellery’s Team Manager, John McLean who believes the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon will complete a strong performance in the wet conditions which are predicted for tomorrow’s race.
“We were happy with the car today it was just that circumstances during qualifying did not work to our advantage. With tomorrow being a 300 kilometre race the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon will have the opportunity to show its full capability,” McLean noted.
“Qualifying towards the end of the field means that Steven and the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon should miss a lot of the carnage which is associated with the start of wet races.”
Round seven of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship starts at 1pm tomorrow when competitors line up for 100 laps around Winton Motor Raceway.
