14/8/2004 14:42 (Press Release) -
New Castrol Perkins signing Alex Davison will commence his V8 Supercar career in Tony Longhurst’s VX Commodore, which will be relegated to the Konica Minolta series at Mallala next month.
Longhurst in turn will step up into the new Perkins VY model he is expected to share with Davison at the Sandown enduro on September 12.
“Alex needs to familiarise himself with our V8 racecars and chalk up some race kilometres in the process,” team boss Larry Perkins said.
“With Mallala scheduled just three weeks prior to Sandown, it’s a perfect opportunity for him to dial in for the enduros.”
The 24-year-old Porsche Carrera Cup driver, who has also signed with Perkins for the for the 2005 season, is looking forward to his V8 race debut.
“Normally, new drivers only get a few test laps prior to enduros, but Larry has gone out of his way to give me opportunities to get up to speed,” Davison said.
“I’ll be up against some pretty good operators at Mallala. My plan is to build up some speed through the three races and see how we go.”
