BigPond Grand Finale for 2004 V8 Supercar Championship

14/8/2004 14:41 (Press Release) - Australia’s leading Internet Services Provider, BigPond has secured naming rights for the final round of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane and BigPond Managing Director Justin Milne today announced the BigPond Grand Finale will close the 2004 season at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway from December 3-5 with a brand new race format.

Justin Milne also announced that BigPond would sponsor a free shuttle bus service from Blacktown Station to Eastern Creek Raceway over the course of the event, making it easier for thousands of fans to get to the circuit.

AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane said the BigPond Grand Finale would be a tremendous climax to the exciting 2004 series.

“BigPond have been fantastic supporters of this year’s Championship and we are delighted will be naming rights sponsor for this event,” Cochrane said.

“The BigPond Grand Finale promises to be one of the most exciting on the V8 Supercar calendar and BigPond’s involvement has ensured we can take this event to the next level.

“The new race format will see fans enjoy V8 Supercar race action on Saturday with the introduction of a twilight race.

“Sunday’s event program has also been improved and now features two 150km V8 Supercar races.

“If last year is anything to go by we can all expect a sensational finish to the 2004 season we are already at the halfway mark in series and the championship battle is alive and well with many drivers in serious contention to take the title,” Cochrane concluded.

BigPond Managing Director, Justin Milne said today the Grand Finale was the perfect event to conclude BigPond’s first full year of V8 Supercar Championship sponsorship.

We see sponsoring this event as further cementing our association with and commitment to the V8 Supercars,” Mr Milne said.

“We currently provide V8 Supercar fans with what we believe is the best on-line motorsport experience in the world with www.v8supercar.bigpond.com. It demonstrates how good a broadband sporting experience can be and the fan feedback has been fantastic.

“Not only has it complemented the Network 10 coverage of the series, it has made it possible for fans in regional and remote areas, where the TV coverage is unavailable, to follow the races live on-line,” Mr Milne said.

“The Grand Finale also will bring to a head four ground -breaking ‘Virtual V8 Supercar Championship’ for GameArena and Xbox Live which is proving hugely popular with the on-line gaming community. The Grand Finale will host the fastest BigPond Broadband 'virtual drivers' from each round and they will ‘race-off’ for BigPond Virtual V8 Driver of the Year title.

“It’s fantastic synergy that the real and virtual V8 Supercar Championships will be contested at Eastern Creek,” Mr Milne said.
