14/8/2004 14:40 (Press Release) - All roads lead to Winton this weekend when the showcase of Australia motor sport – the V8 Supercars – stage a championship round at the town’s motor raceway. The Raceway Chief Executive, Mick Ronke, said that Winton V8 Supercars is fast establishing itself as the place to be.

“We have top executives from most car manufactures, oil refineries, motoring component manufactures and CEO from major Australian corporations all wanting to be seen at the Winton event,” Mr Ronke said.

These include top executives from Holden, Ford , Porsche Germany and Australia and Proton Australia and representatives from Australia's major oil refineries and other motor industry manufacturers such as Bosch, Pirtek, HSV and FPV.

Mr Ronke said that the Managing Director from major car manufacturer Prodrive, owner of the Ford Performance Vehicles, will be out from England for the event. Also attending the event will be motorsport legends Bob Jane, Peter Brock, Alan Moffat and Jim Richards.

“Winton has been part of motor sport for 47 years and we are proud that the V8 Supercars at Winton is now Country Victoria’s No.1 Sporting Event. As such, we are very pleased to have Victorian Treasurer and Minister for State and Regional Development, John Brumby, as our guest of honor at this year’s event. He will be joined by other politicians as well as members of the Malaysian Royalty."

Mr Ronke said that last year the event attracted some 38,000 spectators who contributed between $15 and $20 million dollars to the district.

“We are confident that we will surpass that number this weekend. Motel beds have been booked as far away as Shepparton, Yarrawonga and Albury. People come from all over Australia and an ever increasing number from New Zealand. They have made the V8s at the tricky Victorian circuit one of the highlights of their motor racing year,” Mr Ronke said.

“The fact is that over 250,000 people will visit Winton Motor Raceway in 2004, making it one of Victoria’s biggest regional tourist attractions.”

Besides the V8 Supercars, there will be a quality line up of support categories that will run on the program which include Carrera Cup, Formula Ford, Historic Touring, Aussie Racers and the Kumho Lotus Challenge.
