Squeaky-clean drivers pass drug tests with flying colours

24/5/2000 15:26 (Jason Whittaker) - While drug scandals rock many sports across the world, the squeaky-clean image of our Supercar drivers will be maintained, after all passed random drug tests recently.

Random substance tests were undertaken at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide for the first time in Australian Motorsport last month, with results released this week showing the all-clear for those drivers who were tested.

The testing procedure was contacted much like substance tests used at Olympic events, with the exception that drivers were also tested for alcohol.

In all, eight V8 Supercar drivers were selected at random to take the test, four after the Saturday race, and another four after Sunday’s proceedings. All tests returned negative results.

The tests were contacted by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) together with the Australian Drug Agency (ASDA), who recently signed an agreement with Motorsport’s governing body to conduct the random tests.

In a statement released this week, CAMS said they were pleased with how the tests were conducted and the co-operation received by all drivers.

The Clipsal 500 blitz is the first of many random drug tests to be conducted over the course of the season.
