HRT Practice Report
4/7/2004 11:46 (Press Release) -
The “locals” held sway today with Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall heading the timing monitors, but Jason Bright and Steven Richards upheld the “southerners” claims by being 3rd and 4th fastest. HRT’s Skaife and Todd Kelly – while not happy with their position (23rd and 12th respectively) – are happy with their cars and expect much more to come tom orrow.
Car #2/Chassis 049:
Practice #1:
Laps completed – 17
Position – 23rd
Fastest Lap – 1min 12.00seconds
Mark Skaife:
“It’s always hard to determine tyre quality and the practice set we used today was from Indy Car last year. They turned out to be very average! We put the 2nd set on late in the session and the grip level was way up but we didn’t get enough time to put in a fast lap. I’m confident we’ll do better tomorrow.”
Car #22/Chassis 048:
Practice #1:
Laps completed – 15
Position – 12th
Fastest Lap – 1min 11.49seconds
Todd Kelly:
“The car is basically pretty good and we tried a lot of changes in the 35-minute session! Like Mark, the tyre quality was questionable so we’ll see what happens tomorrow. We won’t really know until qualifying when we’re all on the same rubber!”
Rob Starr – Team Manager:
“It’s obvious from the times and which drivers and teams are where, to see that local input is valuable here! Brighty (Jason Bright) is carrying over his Perth form, which is good but we’re confident of an improvement tomorrow. Both Mark and Todd noticed an improvement on the 2nd set of practice tyres, even though neither got a full run at a lap so I don’t think those times are a true indication of things at the moment.”
