Business as usual for Youlden
2/7/2004 19:13 (Press Release) -
Super Cheap Auto Racing’s Luke Youlden has qualified eighth for round five of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship at Queensland Raceway this afternoon.
Youlden who is currently winning the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship vows to extend his series lead from the fourth row over this weekend’s three races.
“While eighth is a little lower than I expected, I qualified 12th at Wakefield Park and walked away equal first on the weekend so it proves that consistency and finishing races pays dividends,” Youlden said.
“I have adopted this approach throughout 2004 and as a result I am winning the series, there is no reason why come Sunday afternoon I can’t improve on our qualifying position and at the same time extend my lead in the championship.”
Luke was 13th and 15th in today’s two practice sessions with the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon struggling to record competitive times with old tyres.
“I completed both practice sessions with older tyres on and as a result struggled to find speed around the circuit,” Youlden added.
It is the first time the Konica Minolta series has visited Queensland Raceway and despite many teams and drivers using the circuit as their test track, Youlden is predicting the usual action packed racing which the category has become famous for.
“It is one thing to test on the track, but to race on it is entirely different. With race two tomorrow a reverse grid and many drivers competing on the circuit for their first time, fans can expect lots of carnage,” Youlden said.
“The key to a good result on the weekend will be to ensure I don’t get caught up in the mistakes of other drivers during the reverse grid and claim as many championship points as possible.”
With Youlden becoming famous for his fantastic starts and cool, calm and collected nature Super Cheap Auto Racing’s John McLean is predicting continued success in the 2004 Konica Minolta Series for the 26-year-old.
“Luke proved after the first round of the series at Wakefield Park that he has the attitude of a professional sports person and can bounce back from what appears to be an average qualifying performance to win the event,” McLean stated.
“After going over the data and making some adjustments to the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon overnight, Luke will be out in force tomorrow and challenging for position.
“While taking an aggressive attitude towards each race is important, Luke has the ability to remain unhindered under pressure and with this in mind will continue to preserve his lead in the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship.”
