Test Day Boosts Dynamik

2/7/2004 19:10 (Press Release) - Best-ever test times place Team Dynamik squarely into contention for this weekend’s Round 6 of the V8 Supercar Series, at Queensland Raceway. Dynamik drivers Simon Wills and Dale Brede sizzled around their South Australian test track - Mallala Raceway – in record times this week, with Wills cranking out 1:07s laps in the Roadships #44 VY Commodore.

Brede also recorded times in the 1:08s, while third driver and enduro hopeful Neil McFayden was also in this bracket. The trio logged more than 50 laps each on the 28 June test run.

Wills said the Team had desperately needed a test day to boost momentum for 2004.

“Things went really well at Mallala – I recorded my best ever times there, and that was on older rubber,” he said.

“Neil and Dale also went really well. It was great to do some testing and work on a few different aspects of the car. It was possible to develop a process to analyse and improve the car’s performance – you don’t always get that chance in the heat of a race weekend,” he said.

And Wills expects Team Dynamik to apply some real heat this weekend at Queensland Raceway. Sunday’s 280km feature race is over 90 laps, the longest non-enduro race in this year’s Series.

Wills has tasted victory champagne at this 3.1km circuit, winning the VIP Petfoods 500 in 2002 with co-driver David Besnard. Last year he qualified fourth for Team Dynamik, and was well in contention until retiring after a lap-51 rub with Greg Murphy.

“We are going to take a basic approach to this weekend,” he said, ”and use a process that we feel is more reliable.”

Brede is also looking to capitalize on his test times and start positively in the Roadships #45 on a circuit he knows well.

“I’ve been around this track lots of times … it takes away from the nervousness of driving on a new track. It means that we can work on car set-up for qualifying virtually straight away, instead of having to learn a new track.

“It’s probably the first race weekend where I can put my head down straight away and go for it. We’ve got two cars with a real good chance this weekend,” he said.

Practice starts Friday, qualifying on Saturday, with the 280km feature race from 1345 AEST Sunday.
