WPS Racing Ready To Fire At Home Track

29/6/2004 19:11 (Press Release) - WPS Racing, the newest team in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, is expecting to show solid improvement when it lines up for round six at Ipswich’s Queensland Raceway this weekend.

The two-car Ford team, spearheaded by drivers David Besnard and Mark Noske, goes into the race with heightened confidence after a strong test session at Queensland Raceway late last week.

The Gold Coast-based team, which was formed in February just ahead of the start of the season, has spent the past three rounds trialing various chassis and engine setups in a bid to build an information bank on its cars.

Lessons learned from those races have now been incorporated into a new car setup, which was trialed for the first time at last week’s test session.

“We had a great day and it showed that we have learned from recent racing,” said team manager Keith Evers.

“We incorporated some changes into the cars and we got the results we were looking for.

“I expect we will show an improvement on our performance in the last round in Perth and we will be looking to finish in the top half of the field.”

Evers said he was eagerly anticipating feedback on new engines that would be fitted to both Noske’s and Besnard’s cars for the Queensland 300.

“That will add a new dimension again and it will be interesting to see how competitive we can be,” said Evers.

David Besnard, winner of the Queensland 500 in 2002, said he was happy with the test session and was looking forward to racing on the track this weekend.

“I have done a lot of laps around this track so I know that most teams would be rapt in the times we were doing (in the test session),” said Besnard.

“I’ll be looking for an improved performance in the next race and we should then be able to build some momentum as the season progresses.”

Mark Noske was similarly impressed with last week’s test session and said there has been noticeable improvement in the chassis set up.

“There were definite gains and I’m now looking forward to getting the latest-spec engine for the race,” said Noske.

“The fact it is our home race gives us extra confidence and we are keen to get out there and show that we are moving forward.”

WPS Racing is owned by Gold Coast businessman Craig Gore and is sponsored by his emerging financial services company, Wright Patton Shakespeare Financial Group.

The company is also the official sponsor of the V8 Supercar Safety Car program.
