Shane Beikoff Racing Fired Up For Home Event

29/6/2004 19:10 (Press Release) - Queensland-based V8 Supercar team Shane Beikoff Racing will be back with a vengeance at the 5th and penultimate Round of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at Ipswich’s Queensland Raceway.

The local event for the popular Brisbane team, Shane Beikoff Racing is set to prove they have what it takes to be inside the Top 10 in the competitive Konica Minolta Series this weekend, with ex-Formula 1 and newly signed WPS endurance driver Alex Yoong behind the wheel of the Dieseltech Springwood AU Falcon.

After an extremely successful test session at the 3.1km Queensland Raceway circuit last Tuesday, Yoong can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the AU Falcon again, and knows the car has what it takes to mix it with the best in the business.

“We posted some very impressive lap times at Queensland Raceway last week – the crew at Shane Beikoff Racing have made a lot of changes to the AU Falcon since our last round at Eastern Creek, and it has really paid off,” the 28-year old Malaysian driver explained.

“Being the home event for this small yet popular team, I’d love to repay the team for their trust in allowing me to drive by wrapping up the weekend with a Top 10 result – that’s our goal, and I think it’s a very realistic goal as well,” Yoong continued.

Team Manager Shane Beikoff also expects big things at Queensland Raceway, saying that with a newly-revised geometry setup on the AU Falcon, the aggression of Yoong and the support of the local Queensland crowd, Shane Beikoff Racing has a firm chance of breaking into the Top 10.

“We’ve worked very hard between Eastern Creek and this Round in terms of geometry settings on the car, and it’s really paid off. Our development on the car has allowed us more adjustments during the race weekend, and I think that with Alex’s experienced head and vast technical feedback, he’ll help us immensely in getting the car on the money,” Beikoff explained.

“Alex showed at Eastern Creek he had the pace to mix it with the best – 9th overall in Practice and was running 8th in Race 2 until he was unfortunately taken out by a fellow competitor. We’re very excited about this round, especially the support from the local crowd, as the whole crew are 100% Brisbane-resided, as well as our major sponsor Dieseltech Springwood, so we’re very enthusiastic about our chances this weekend,” Beikoff concluded.

Shane Beikoff Racing’s home event at Round 5 of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at Queensland Raceway will take place this weekend, 3rd & 4th July.
