Positive Outlook Ahead For Ellery
29/6/2004 0:13 (Press Release) -
After breaking into the top ten two weeks ago at Perth, Super Cheap Auto Racing’s Steven Ellery is striving for a repeat performance at round six of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship at Queensland Raceway on the 2 – 4 June 2004.
It has been a challenging year for Ellery who was on the podium at the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 last year with a series of accidents and a rotation of key personnel overshading the potential displayed at the end of 2003.
“The results at Bathurst and Sandown seem like so long ago when you consider everything Super Cheap Auto Racing has been through since the start of the season,” Ellery comments.
“But to break through into to the top ten and record eighth in the final race at Perth is something which spurs me on and makes me hungry for even better results at the Queensland 300 on the weekend.”
It is a case of the positives outweighing the negatives for Ellery as he enters the period before the Queensland 300 after the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was 14th in the same event last year and a successful test day in the last week.
“The test day during the week was without a doubt the best achieved by Super Cheap Auto Racing this year and provides myself and the team a large amount of confidence going into the 300 kilometre race next weekend,” Ellery commented.
“A lot of teams who have also tested at Queensland during the week have been vocal in the success they achieved at the circuit and I believe the times and performance of the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was equal to any of our competitors.
“The track conditions have certainly seen some really quick times eventuate from the circuit and if everything remains constant during the week there should be some fast times recorded during qualifying and some really close racing for the fans.
“Last year, we had a good result and finished in the top 14 after the 300 kilometre race. With the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon competitive at Perth and the team completing a quick pit stop, I am feeling really confident about round six of the championship.”
“The real test will be on the weekend and seeing if each team can maintain the pace throughout the race.”
With Ellery 29th in the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship, the Super Cheap Auto Racing driver knows the importance of a good result at Queensland.
“Since Adelaide we have been on the back foot chasing hard for points. But with Queensland Raceway our test track, a stronger then ever team and proven performance at the circuit in previous years, I believe we will be recording more points to help my championship point score.”
