White Returns To The Scene Of The Time

23/6/2004 19:00 (Press Release) - Matthew White is confident he will have the upper hand over his competitors for round 5 of the Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at Queensland Raceway on July 2 and 3.

White is relishing a return to the scene of one of his greatest V8 Supercar achievements when he campaigns his Gulf Western Oil/Jayco Caravans Falcon before a massive audience next weekend.

The Melbourne based racer proved his indisputable speed with a top 10 qualifying time for the 2002 Queensland 500 at the same circuit, and in the very same ex-Briggs Motorsport AU. Now he’s fired up for his first 2004 Konica Minolta round win.

"I’ve done a lot of miles there. (Willowbank). I’ve made the Shootout there, so I suppose you could say I know my way around. Good braking and good power down are probably the keys to the place."

With the Queensland event playing on the under card to the main series, White has resolved to put in an attention grabbing performance.

"We’ll be putting our efforts into finding the perfect balance with the short amount of practice time we have. It’ll be good to be in front of a bigger crowd for all our fans and sponsors."

Those same supporters have had their hopes dashed at the previous two rounds when incidents in the reverse grid races have robbed the team of any chance of victory.

But the two times Konica Minolta series runner-up has put the disappointment behind him and is bent on a return to the podium. Being out of championship contention will not effect his desire to win.

"I’ve really got nothing to lose, but that won’t have an impact because I drive at 100% all the time."

That attitude has helped to establish his reputation as one of the best drivers in the Konica Minolta series. With his proven record, he is also a driver in demand by Supercar teams when driver pairings are announced for the endurance rounds.

This season is no different, but he is playing his cards close to his chest.

"I’ve talked to some teams and I’m pretty happy with the way that’s all looking," was all he would say.

It seems White is poised to announce an exciting diver pairing for this season’s endurance races soon.

Until then, he is focused on grabbing maximum points from round 5 of the Konica Minolta series at Queensland Raceway on July 2 and 3.
