Best Result Of 2004 For Ellery
15/6/2004 11:50 (Press Release) -
Steven Ellery has battled on to his best round result of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship with Super Cheap Auto Racing finishing tenth overall at round five of the series at Barbagallo Raceway this afternoon.
After experiencing a series of hurdles this year, Ellery’s first top ten finish of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship was sealed when the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon finished eighth and ninth in today’s two races.
“Last year at Barbagallo things turned upside down for me literally when the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon rolled in the final race,” Ellery said.
"But today on a more symbolic note, I feel as though things have turned in a totally different direction and I can put the events of this year behind me and focus on gaining momentum for the endurance races in a couple of months time.
“It has certainly been a challenging period for Super Cheap Auto Racing and it seems like such a long time ago since I had the good form displayed at the end of last year. But I am now feeling more confident as we head towards the mid point of the series.”
Super Cheap Auto Racing Team Manager, John McLean said that Ellery’s placing in the final was a solid result considering that the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon completed the majority of the race without an alternator.
“The problem was picked up after the pit stop on lap three with Super Cheap Auto Racing deciding to keep the car out on track as long as possible and claim valuable championship points,” McLean commented.
“It was a nervous wait for everyone at Super Cheap Auto Racing and every single member of the team had their eyes glued to the monitors, praying that Steven would be able to finish the race.
“However during the race Steven said the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon was competitive so we advised him to continue to push for positions.”
Ellery’s top ten result encouraging for the Super Cheap Auto Racing driver who is now 29th in the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship.
“I am hoping to complete another test day in the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon between now and the next round of the series at Queensland Raceway in three weeks time which should help continue the form displayed this weekend,” Ellery concluded.
