Perth produces season best for BJR
13/6/2004 22:37 (Press Release) -
Could Perth be the turning point for BJR in 2004 ? That’s the question that the Albury based V8 Supercar team are asking themselves after a successful encounter at round 5 of the championship at Barbagallo Raceway.
John Bowe has lead the way with a consecutive 5th place overall, repeating his effort from Darwin and the impeccable Tasmanian now impressively sits 6th in the championship standings. Brad Jones’ consistency has seen him take 12th place overall, a vast improvement from the disappointment of the opening rounds of the season.
Bowe’s 8th, 7th and 7th respective race finishes giving him the sterling result - “After the frustration we had during practice and qualifying, this is a great result. My OzEmail Falcon was getting faster and faster, I think I even held the lap record for a little while out there as well,” said Bowe.
“The car was setup to look after it’s tyres in the latter part of the races, which made it a little tough to drive in the opening laps but it was an effective strategy and something the guys in the team should take all the credit for,” Bowe added.
Commenting on forging his way into the top six drivers in the championship, Bowe said “There’s no doubt that consistency is the way to accumulate points these days and the reliability that the BJR boys have given me is the reason we are doing so well. Being inside the top six is where we deserve to be and finishing 5th in the last two rounds is testament to that.”
It was a relieved Brad Jones who’s dogged determination has produced his best result in 2004. The nine times Australian Champ was finally able to show the potential of himself and the #21 OzEmail Falcon.
“We had good car speed this weekend and for the first time this year we didn’t get caught up in other people’s stupidity. I was able to circulate with the top ten or so cars and with the fantastic pit stops that the guys gave me it was a really pleasing result.”
Jones finished the three races in 12th, 13th and 12th, the catalyst for the well learned 12th place overall - “This [Perth] is the turning point for me this year. Now that I’ve got some momentum, I’m really looking forward to finishing the rest of the season strongly.”
Bowe’s and Jones’ efforts in Perth have further strengthened BJR’s credentials as the second best Ford team in the 2004 championship, behind Stone Brother Racing. Both OzEmail Falcon’s easily outperforming a number of the more, well-fancied outfits.
“As one of the smallest teams in pit lane when it comes to numbers of people we pack a fair punch. I just goes to show the levels of determination and ability that exists in our team,” Jones concluded
