V8 Supercar Supporters Asked To Show Their Support
11/6/2004 22:09 (Press Release) -
AVESCO is calling for V8 Supercar fans and teams alike to throw their support behind the proposed redevelopment of the V8 Supercar pit garages for the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge held in conjunction with the Lexmark Indy 300 on the Gold Coast in October this year.
Gold Coast Motor Events have taken the redevelopment requests on board to ensure the V8 Supercar Championship Series is provided with the best facilities available as a series that holds equal billing in one of the most popular events on the Australian motorsport calendar. After all, the V8’s should have at least the same facilities enjoyed by CART now for many years!
The redevelopment will see the V8 Supercar Paddock Area move from its current location on Cyprus Avenue, to a pit area that will accommodate 32 cars between Turn 12 and the current Champ Car Pit Area.
Each V8 Supercar Pit Stop Bay will be approximately 5 metres long and 3 metres wide and will also incorporate a tent structure pit garage with the approximate dimensions of 9 x 5 metres. The V8 Supercar Pit Lane will also incorporate bollards for team gantries.
The proposed redevelopments will benefit the V8 Supercar Championship Series on a number of levels including the importance of convenience for teams who will now be situated in the one location rather than having to move from the separate Paddock Area to Pit lane. It will also give greater access for the fans to visit the garage areas.
As part of a five year agreement AVESCO signed with the Queensland Government last year for the V8 Supercar Championship Series to continue running at the Gold Coast Indy event, the new facilities will ensure V8 Supercar teams are provided with the most suitable working conditions available by improving Workplace Health and Safety issues that they are currently facing with the transportation of equipment between the two locations.
With the future of locating the V8 Supercar Paddock Area in Cyprus Avenue in doubt, it is a necessity for a permanent Paddock and Pit lane area to be constructed to secure the future of V8 Supercars at this event.
It will also improve the overall operation of the race meeting, allowing V8 Supercars to live up its current reputation as one of the most professional motorsport categories in the world.
Fans can phone, fax, email and write to the following organisations to show your support of the redevelopments.
