This is the ninth time Philip Island has played host to a V8Supercar meeting, the previous 8 meetings have all been Shell Series rounds. The previous winners were Glenn Seton (1993, 1994 and 1995), Larry Perkins (1996), Russell Ingall (1997), Craig Lowndes (1998), Mark Skaife (1999) and Garth Tander (2000).
Glenn Seton (7), Craig Lowndes (4), Mark Skaife (3), Larry Perkins (2), Russell Ingall (2), Peter Brock and Craig Baird have won the individual heats. The dashes have been won by Dick Johnson, Alan Jones, John Bowe, Steven Richards, Steven Johnson, Tomas Mezera and Cameron McLean.
Holden have won 12 races at Eastern Creek compared to Ford's 8.
Craig Lowndes currently holds the lap record at 1:33.4389, which was set in 1999.
Holdens outnumber Fords in the entry 15-6.
Making their V8Supercar debut is Craig Bastian. He will be the 232nd driver to race in the V8Supercar category. The most experienced driver in the field is John Trimbole with 63 race starts to his credit. The next most experienced driver is Wayne Wakefield with 20 starts.
Making their Phillip Island V8Supercar debuts are Bill Attard, Craig Bastian, Chris Butler, Dean Canto, John Falk, Peter Field, Craig Harris, Ross Halliday, Gary Holt, Daniel Miller, Daniel Natoli, Gary Quartly, Tim Rowse, Bill Sieders, Wayne Wakefield, Matthew White and Terry Wyhoon. Canto, Halliday, Quartly, Sieders and Wakefield have all raced the circuit before in other categories. This will be the fifth time John Trimbole has raced at Phillip Island in V8Supercars.
